Today is Thursday, June 3 2010. We crossed the border from Montana to British Columbia around noon on Tuesday. No problems there. Guard simply asked what we brought for personal protection like pepper spray or guns. I said we have nothing, did we need something? He chuckled, replied no, and asked if Petro had up to date shots and papers, how long we will be in Canada, then wished us a safe and happy trip. End of story.
Arrived in Radium Hot Springs at Red Streak Provincial Park around 2:30. Pretty remote camping with no one at the entrance to check us in. We drove around the park, decided on the electric only section where only one other camper was parked. Picked a site and this is what welcomed us.
He couldn't take it any longer and scared them away than whined and cried cause he wanted them back. Notice their white butts in the background
So we settled for glass of wine, read our literature than headed for the hot springs pool. Stopped at the BC visitors center for additional information but the girl at the desk had such a heavy French accent we couldn't understand her. We did manage to get some maps and find the operating hours for the pool.
Now this is relaxing, just like a huge hot bath. Cost $13 for the 2 of us and it really wasn't crowded at all.
The pool is huge, a little better than half the size of a football field
View of Radium Hot Springs from a hiking trail in the campground. Notice the golf course on the side
This is the sign posted on the ladies bathroom by the camp site.
After the soak in the srings pool we stopped for fuel, a whopping $4 gal. Went to local pub for a beer and burger ($37 for 2 burgers-2 beers-1 soup and 1 salad). From now on we will drink and eat at our camp site. when we returned to the campground several more campers had pulled in but none really close to us. We put a movie in the DVD player and fell to sleep to the sound of rain. It had rained most of the day.
Wednesday morning we paid our campground fee ($33) and entrance fee into the National Parks ($16.60 for one day pass) than headed out early for Lake Louise in Alberta down route 93 across the Kootney National Park
into Banff National Park.
To be continued tomorrow this log has taken me way too long to do with this internet connection.
Slow down and enjoy the scenery more.
