Time to go

Time to Hit the Road click here

Well, it's been swell but ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
**************************
Over a month of darn near daily (on again - off again)
clouds - wind - rain - drizzle - fog - and occasional short lived sunshine
(I think our last all day sunny warm day was July 9 when we were in Denali)
***************************
Fishing did not live up to it's hype
2 halibut charter trips yielded about 42 lbs of fillets (not worth photographing)
several days of riverbank fishing for sockeye and silver did not produce a limit
One day of razor clamming produced a few clams and a sore back
**************************
Sick dog
(2 days & nights of throwing up and diarrhea)

**************************
 Sick Barb
(cold rain & drizzle led to a chilled body & scratchy throat)
**************************
Issues with our cell phones and roaming charges
**************************
mix ups with our mail delivery
**************************
credit card compromised and canceled
***************************

Mold on window coverings and ceiling with nearly constant humidity and steamy windows compromising our view much of the time

***************************
and the list goes on and on
***************************
Sarah Palin's Alaska my ass. I don't know how people can live here year round with minimal sunshine. Guess you have to really really really love fishing and high prices. By the way she was seen by a couple in our park filming at the beach/boat launch up the road in Deep Creek just yesterday.

Are we glad we did it - You bet
Will we be back - Not in this lifetime

So that said, having satisfied our curiosity about Alaska and enjoyed most of it, we are pulling up stakes and starting the journey back to the lower 48

We will have 2 nights in Alaska and the remainder of the trip will take us back through the Yukon and British Columbia. We plan minimal sight seeing  with the exception of Hyder (BC) where we hope to see some bears fishing.
We had originally planned to put our rig on the ferry at Haines and take it to Prince Rupert so we could experience the "inside passage". After checking the cost and the fact that our dog would have to ride in the camper down in the bottom of boat for the entire 3 days (with only a few visits a day for exercise (take him off ship when we stop at ports) we decided it was not for us.

Our new freezer is almost full of Alaskan fish so that is the silver lining of this Kenai Peninsula stay

The owner of this park fixed razor clams for us the other night, that is when I discovered I do not have a taste for them but, went along on the dig (cold rainy windy morning of Aug 10) for the experience of it. Pictured, Carl's 1st catch. He ended up with about 8
Met some great folks, Gary and Amelia, so spent some time socializing.

Explored much of the coastal area enjoying the views and history including this trip down Oil Well road and visit to "Up
Chucks" restaurant (pretty good food)

Saw this pencil sharpener there, sort of gives you an idea of the place doesn't it?

Enjoyed a couple wonderful sunsets
Man the sky was ON FIRE
One we will remember always. As Bob at the park said, "it is magical"
So few places to see the mountains and ocean (gulf/Inlet) all in one
one sunrise with minimal clouds. What a site to see

We would recommend "Scenic View RV" to anyone and everyone heading to the Kenai Peninsula for a visit. Stay long enough to enjoy one of these sunsets and visit with the owners. They are a one of kind couple who will make you feel like family.

Our Alaska journey has been all we had hoped it would be and more but we are both ready to call it quits.
Until next time, not sure when I will post again as internet  may be iffy.
